Leo Mbini Schools Rugby Development is in partnership with the Berlin and Ndevana Community Police Forum to host a tournament for 24 primary schools in Berlin and the surrounding areas on May 29.

The main purpose of the tournament is to raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse.

“It is also a programme for safer schools as we have seen in the past that schools are not safe anymore with kids carrying weapons and and teachers being put at high risk

“We are trying to bring back those Wednesdays with kids filling the fields and and parents supporting them,” said Mbini said.

The GO! previously reported (Rugby programme set to develop talent, August 2 2018) that Mbini initiated a rugby programme for under-12 and U13 players to revive the sport code in the area.

“I saw that these young boys are passionate about the sport, but there are not enough tournaments that accommodate their age groups, especially in the rural areas.

“There are about 14 schools in and around Berlin that are participating, and we are using Nkosinathi Fields and Berlin Primary School’s sports field,” said Mbini.
