Clarendon High School emerged victorious in the East London Coastal leg of the SPAR Eastern Cape Schoolgirls Hockey Challenge after beating Hudson Park 2-1 at Clarendon last Sunday.
Bianca Woods secured victory for her school after scoring the second goal in the final minutes.
“It really was an awesome day of hockey and we were all spoilt by SPAR. And it was great to have the support of friends and families,” said tournament director Bev Forward.
SPAR EC sponsorships and events manager Alan Stapleton was also pleased with the tournament.
“Although Clarendon and Hudson Park have been the dominant sides, it was highly encouraging to see some of the smaller schools competing with such distinction during the day. The tournament is all about providing opportunities for all schoolgirls, with an emphasis on team spirit and support from the family,” he said.
Clarendon is currently one of two qualifiers so far for the provincial finals, the other qualifier being DSG. The finals will be held in Port Elizabeth from July 27 to 28. Further qualifying matches will be held this weekend as part of the PE Central leg.
