Golfing teams from various companies gathered recently at the East London Golf Club to raise funds for two local non-profit organisations as part of the EL Round Table #1 Annual Golf Day.
The two beneficiaries are the East London Child and Youth Care Centre (ELCYCC) and St Bernard’s Hospice.
A total of 24 teams, six catered tees and two greens formed part of the day.
Round Table committee member Terry-Andre Eleftheriou said the aim of the golf day was is to give a chance for corporate companies the chance to network with each other.
“We’re really appreciative to our sponsors and those that have participated in the event – it has really helped,” Eleftheriou said.
One of the main sponsors of the event was Ideal Butchery.
Butchery owner Mark Oberem said Round Table #1’s initiative was highly commendable and more institutions such as these were needed within communities.
“There should be more businesses doing this, yet it’s also so great to see lots of people reaching out to help,” Oberem said.
ELCYCC fundraiser Larnè Robus said the donation was is welcome as it had has been a particularly difficult time for the organisation.
“We’re very grateful and fortunate for this gesture and the opportunity to form new partnerships.
“We’re currently housing 125 children, up from 105 at the beginning of the year,” Robus said.
The day almost R30,000 raised.
