The tournament saw King Central District Rugby subunion-affiliated team Young Sharks emerge the winners after their hard-fought 7-3 win against rival team Wolves in a thrilling final played at the Breidbach Sports Grounds.

This was followed with an over-30 disco and a prize-giving ceremony held at the Schornville Community Hall later in the evening.

All Blacks Supporters Club co-founder and treasurer Alecia Vass said the events were staged to serve as a fundraiser, as well as to give back to the community as part of their social responsibility programme.

“The club was established in 2015 and every year we reach out to our communities through feeding schemes. We also reach out to some charity organisations within King and the surrounding areas,” Vass said.

“In 2018, Last year, three Breidbach soup kitchens benefitted from cash donations and 2017 the previous year saw the Schornville community been served food from a potjiekos competition, held by our club, as well as and also a cash donation handed over to the Uniting Reformed Church.”

Tournament director Clarence Kennedy said the five rugby clubs which competed in the fundraising tournament, were Young Sharks, Wolves, Blue Jets, Balasi Tigers and Old Dalians, with Sharks scooping the winning trophy and R3,000 while runner-up team Wolves walked away with R1,500.

“The tournament was a huge success, with the players and team officials showing true sportsmanship,” Kennedy said.
