It’s ‘Fireworks, Flowers and Fiestas’ at Viva Musica concert

Viva Musica Ensemble will be hosting their spring concert, titled Fireworks, Flowers and Fiestas, at the Nahoon Methodist Church on Saturday.

The concert will feature various classical pieces including selections from George Frideric Handel’s 1749 Music for the Royal Fireworks and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s 1882 Waltz of the Flowers.

Saturday will also see the group debut A Whole New World from Disney’s Aladdin.

Joining the ensemble will be East London-born soprano Elise Mattheus who will be accompanied on piano by Lynette Nel.

Mattheus has featured in various productions at the Guild Theatre over the years such as Mr Sandman, Queen, Liewe Heksie and Jack and the Beanstalk.

Another guest is the Junior BCM Orchestra, made up of 22 students between the ages of 13 and 18, and conducted by Richard Lento.

Viva Musica, conducted by Joy Marshall, is a group of musicians united in their love for music. Various instruments are included such as the violin, cello, flute and trombone.

The concert is scheduled to start at 3pm on Saturday.

Entry is free and a collection will be taken in aid of the Sophumelela Centre.
