Merrifield wows the world

Merrifield pupils students recently participated in the World Scholars Cup (WSC) Mini Global Competition in Durban.

This competition, held from September 23 to 27, brought together more than over 900 pupils, in over 300 teams from all over the world.

The cup comprises of debates, collaborative writing challenges, multiple-choice tests and a team quiz that covers a number of different areas of inquiry, ranging from science and history to art and music.

Six Merrifield teams progressed to the WSC Tournament of Champions to be held that will to take place at Yale University in the US in November.

Grade 9 pupil Emily Faye Xantho placed second overall in the senior division.

The grade 9 team of Emily Faye Xantho, Megan Wachter and Nathan Muzorewa placed fifth overall.

Merrifield teacher Ronwyn Pearce won the Coach of the Year award at the competition.

In addition, Amy-Lee Drake placed 12th overall in the junior division
