St Bernard’s Hospice Pedal for a Purpose to raise funds for palliative care for all
The annual St Bernard’s Hospice Pedal for a Purpose Cycle Challenge will start next
Wednesday and end on Friday. Cyclists will take on the gruelling route which stretches 187km from East London to Komani and back again. “All participants of the St Bernard’s
Hospice Cycle Challenge are encouraged to raise funds via sponsorship over and above their entry fee.
“Entry fees simply cover the costs involved with hosting the cycle challenge and do not go
towards fundraising,” said St Bernard’s marketing and events officer Marchel Grant.
“Sponsorship contributions and all other proceeds from the challenge will go towards the care of our cancer, motor neuron disease, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis patients.”
St Bernard’s CEO Melissa Knox thanked participants for joining in to help those
in need. “We are a small group coming together in our fight for palliative care for all this year, and that’s okay.
“The saying, ’Dynamite comes in small packages’, is an excellent metaphor for that, and although we may be a smaller group this year – the impact remains of dynamic proportions.
“As participants, you are cycling in memory of real-life heroes. Whether you are
celebrating lives lost, struggling lives, or to ensure no-one has to struggle alone in the
future, you are everyday people being real-life heroes, and for that, I applaud you,” Knox
said.
“Thank you, to cyclists and sponsors for not giving up and for encouraging family, friends and loved ones for being our Hospice Heroes.
“Your personal sacrifices of time, finances, heart and soul are much appreciated.
