East London woman arrested on RAF fraudulent claims

The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team of Hawks in East London arrested Nyameka Katshwa(48) yesterday March 16, 2021 for alleged charges of fraud.

It is alleged that in July 14 2007,Nyameka Katshwa made a fraudulent claim against Road Accident Fund since her husband died due to motor vehicle accident.

Provincial HAWKS Spokesperson, Cpt Yolisa Mgolodela said “She made the claims on behalf of her stepchildren (the deceased’s minor children) who were not under her guardianship as they were staying with other relatives.”

“The claim was successful and a sum of R514 000 was paid to her by RAF. It is further reported that she never utilized the money for her stepchildren’s needs but rather for her personal use.” Said Mgolodela

Mgolodela said that the matter was reported to Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the Hawks for Investigation, “hence her arrest and court appearance yesterday.” She said

The accused is out on warning and the case is remanded for the 13th of April 2021.
