Last year, the GO! & Express brought you regular updates about young cerebral palsy sufferer Logan Bartle through the Fit for Logan Challenge.

Through those same articles, we were also able to create awareness about his condition as well as about Canaan Care Centres, which is the school he attends.

This year, we bring New Generation Primary School to your attention.

The GO! & Express presented the school with reading books donated by  the Yizani Sefunde project which is run by NGO’s Nal’ iBali, Book Dash and WordWorks and which the school opted to award to learner’s at the their annual prize-giving . (Photo: Book Worms – GO! & Express, October 28, 2021)

Situated in the middle of Egoli (which is an informal settlement near Amalinda), the school also serves the communities of Muvhango, Highway Gardens, Scenery Park and Mdantsane.

Led by school principal, Mrs O’Reilly, 26 educators oversee the education of over 1,000 learners from Grade R to Grade 7.

Though the school is very neat, has a dedicated team of educators and offers what it can to the learners, it was evident from our visit last year that there are many ways in which the wider community can help to enhance the learners’ scholastic experiences especially as the they come from poverty-stricken homes.

We are therefore appealing to the generosity of the East London public to please support them as we ask for donations in the form of stationery, casual wear and school wear in the form of white shirts, shoes and boy’s grey shorts.

If you would like to contribute, you can drop off the items in the boxes marked with the GO! & Express logo at any of the following places:

  • Info Desk near Woolworths, Vincent Park Centre
  • Nearby Pick ‘n Pay, Vincent Park Centre
  • Foyer at the Daily Dispatch building, cnr Quenera Drive & St Helena Road, Beacon Bay
