Go Review – Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Genre: Action, adventure, comedy

The anticipation for the first film of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been high since the first trailer was released in 2022. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the second sequel to Ant-Man (2015).

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly return alongside Micheal Douglas and Michelle Pfieffer to face the dangers of the Quantum Realm.

In this installment, Scott Lang (Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Lilly), along with their family, find themselves sucked into the Quantum Realm only to be roped into an adventure with strange creatures and a new supervillain, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who is on a mission to conquer as many worlds in the multiverse as he can, while actively seeking revenge on those who exiled him.

While fighting to save the world, Lang has to deal with the struggles of making up for lost time with his daughter and finding his purpose in life again.

The movie does an okay job of showing his life beyond his superhero duties, but once the action starts, it feels more like a Kang The Conqueror movie than an Ant-Man movie.

The film spends much time on Kang’s backstory and exploring his character’s motives. Majors gives a brilliant portrayal of a villain the audience will hate to love.

Another character who gets an introduction as a superhero is Cassie (Kathryn Newton) who gets her own suit and fights the bad guys alongside her father.

The movie is in 3D at the cinemas, and unfortunately, the viewing experience is not fun as like many current movies, it has terrible colour grading. The shots are so dark that one can hardly see what is happening.

Christopher Beck did an excellent job composing the score for the film. Every song matches well with the scene, but the theme song stands out.
