Local Afro-pop princess Berita is back home in East London and will be performing on Thursday evening, April 6, at the Guild Theatre.
An Intimate Evening with Berita will be a very special performance for the artist, as it is her first time performing in her hometown after years on the road across the country.
The artist, whose real name is Gugulethu Khumalo, expressed her excitement at performing for an East London audience again.
“I have a special connection with East London because it’s where my musical journey began. To me, it feels like it was just yesterday when I was still a student at WSU, releasing my first album. I have fond memories of being loved and supported in East London,” she said.
Berita’s career started back in 2012 with the release of her debut album, which then went on to win Best African Pop Album at the 2013 Metro FM Music Awards. Since then she has released three more albums, and has been nominated for and won many more awards.
Her latest single, Peace of Mind, has a special message about choosing your own peace and happiness over the negative.
“I’ve recently gone through a very challenging situation publicly and this song is my way of reflecting on this situation and moving forward, and learning to make peace regardless of the situation,” said Berita.
The Ndicel’iKiss hitmaker is currently in the studio working on new music and has stated that she is grateful for all her past accolades and looks forward to what the future holds.
“I am continuously working to grow my skill as a songwriter and as a performer and watching my growth as an artist is what motivates me.
“I call this year ‘The Year of Open Sounds and Open Spaces’. People can expect to hear my music in different genres and break barriers with my music in Europe. I hope to spread joy and I want audiences to genuinely have a good time and get their money’s worth,” she said.
Tickets are available at Computicket for R250 each or R300 at the door.
