The Harley-Davidson Club of South Africa (HDCSA), East London chapter, in partnership with Suzuki East London, hosted their annual winter blanket run on April 30.

Hundreds of blankets were donated and these will go to various local charities.

Chair of the HDCSA East London, Willie du Plessis, said the chapter noted the real need among impoverished members of our community for warmth over the winter months.

This sparked the blanket run that has turned into an annual event.

We have arranged an annual blanket run for the East London biking community to open their generous hearts and donate a blanket with each motorbike attending the function.

We were very blessed to receive amazing sponsorships from various companies and individuals to make this event spectacular.

Each year, we host many bikers from various local motorcycle clubs as well as individual bikers from East London and surrounds.

A cloudy and rainy day greeted us on Sunday and hampered attendance.

But we still had 185 diehard entries, with riders attending from as far afield as Pietermaritzburg, Durban, and Komani.

Our goal is to assist local organizations in helping our community stay warm with blankets for winter.”

The donated blankets are shared between Clean Slate, Home to Home, Sunbeams, and Norman Goosen Memorial.

Financial assistance will be provided to East London Bikers’ Benevolent Fund as well as the children’s oncology ward in Cape Town, via HDCSA’s Cape Town Chapter, due to East London children also being referred to this hospital.
