Netflix SA’s latest offering, Fatal Seduction, offers viewers seven episodes of steamy escapist programming.
The show follows Nandi (Kgomotso Christopher), a married woman who goes on a weekend away with her best friend when they meet a handsome stranger with whom Nandi begins an enrapturing affair.
The affair serves as a catalyst for the ensuing danger, tragedy, and drama that Nandi and her family become entangled in through the show’s run.
When the trailer first came out, it positioned the show like another Netflix series, Dark Desires.
However, Fatal Seduction is a fresh take on an otherwise familiar story arc.
It presents a rigorous exploration of contentious SA issues such as, gender-based violence, monogamy, and corruption.
It also breathes new life into universal plotlines that cover adultery, murder, and deception.
The cast features some familiar faces including Thapelo Mokoena (Leonard), Nathaniel Ramabulana (Vuyo), Prince Grootboom (Jacob) and Lunathi Mampofu (Brenda).
Though the show is entertaining, there are inconsistencies in the narrative and the casting that detract from the viewing pleasure. As anticipated, there are multiple sex scenes between the two leads, who suffer from a lack of chemistry, further exacerbated by a declaration of love that seems unwarranted and random.
The seven episodes bring up multiple issues that are not resolved by the end of the series run.
The opening scene shows Nandi being arrested at a murder scene, but by the end of the seventh episode there is no reference to that scene again.
Hopefully season two will answer all those questions and give the series a better ending.
Fatal Seduction is available to watch on Netflix.
