Though she is no stranger to “girl-bossing”, East Londoner Kylie Saunders is new to the foodie scene in town.
Launching Golden Wands Waffle Sticks — a sweet treat food cart — in August, Saunders, 23, hopes her passion project becomes a firm favourite among East Londoners.
Saunders, who is also the owner of popular SA jewellery brand, Grace the Brand, said Golden Wand Waffle Sticks was a personal creative endeavour.
“I felt there was a lack of food or dessert vendors with elegant and beautiful carts or set-ups for parties and events.
“While it’s important to have good food as a vendor, I feel it is just as important to put creativity and thought into your set-up.
“Being a really creative person, my dream was to create a dessert vendor that had an amazing set-up while also providing a delicious and unique food item.
“I wanted to create a truly unique experience for people’s special events,” she said.
With a “personalised” ordering system, allowing customers to create their own sweet concoction from the available flavours and toppings, and décor to match any colour scheme or party theme, Golden Wand Waffle Sticks is not just your average waffle on a stick vendor.
“From the unique and delicious waffle sticks, to the jaw-dropping design of our cart, everything is done with a lot of thought and attention to detail.
“I really want people to leave our cart and their event feeling like it was ‘a whole experience’,” Saunders said.
And a big part of that experience is seeing your choice of waffle come to life right in front of you.
“We call it an ‘experience’ because that’s truly what it is as when you book with us, we bring our premium cart which can be hired with balloons in your colour scheme of choice or with our beautiful flower arrangement, at no additional cost.
“Then our menu will display which sauces and toppings you may choose from to make your own personalised waffle.
“We use the best ingredients and an awesome recipe to make the fluffiest, lightest and most delicious waffles on a stick, which are freshly baked at your event.
“Then, they’re smothered in warm sauces and decorated in gourmet toppings, all in front of your eyes,” Saunders said.
With five delicious sauces available; Belgian, white and dark chocolate to caramel and Lotus Biscoff, plus a variety of toppings including Oreo crumb, Biscoff crumb, fudge pieces, mini Astros, nut flakes, honeycomb, and more — just the sound of these flavours is enough to make mouths water.
And while Golden Wands Waffle Sticks is available for any event, from birthday parties and baby showers to weddings, Saunders said she did not attend markets.
“We’ll join any party, event or function, and even visit offices or businesses.
“This doesn’t have to be for any specific event or function in particular, but rather as an employee appreciation,” she said.
“But we won’t be doing any markets or festivals.
“The whole idea is to add a little something special to your celebration.”
Well versed in running her own business, she said establishing Golden Wand Waffle Sticks was a lot more fun than it was challenging.
“I’ve loved starting this side hustle and I think because I already own and run a company, it made this experience so much easier for me.
“What I’ve enjoyed the most about Golden Wands is seeing people’s reaction to our cart and waffle sticks.
“They are truly blown away by how beautiful and unique it is when we set up at their event as well as how delicious our waffle wands are.
“When you see how much joy and excitement it all brings to customers and their guests, it makes it so special.”
And as far as she is concerned, this is just the beginning for Golden Wands.
“I hope to see Golden Wands Waffle Sticks become the top vendor choice for any and every event in East London.
“And to see our business grow to such a scale that our cart — which hopefully becomes carts — is fully booked every weekend!”
