This week we chat to Natalie van Heek, owner of Takara Wellness Centre, where she and her team offer massage therapy.
Q: What service do you provide?
A: Takara Wellness Centre offers Swedish, deep, sports and body massages, as well as facials and waxing.
Q: How and when did you decide to start offering your services?
A: Nine years ago, my life changed forever when my dearest friend called me with a surprise that would alter the course of my journey. With obedience to God, she blessed me with Takara Wellness Centre, a gift that would become my passion and purpose.
Q: Which type of massage therapy do you specialise in?
A: We specialise in aromatherapy and sports massage.
Q: What skills or experience does one need to become a massage therapist?
A: We do a two-year beauty therapist course and specialise in massage.
Q: Do you work alone?
A: My two darling therapists who work with me are Molly and Dimps.
Q: What are some of the most popular packages that you offer?
A: Our most popular massage is our 90-minute deep relaxation massage and our ‘Nurture and Nourish’ two-hour package, which is a Kalahari honeybush facial followed by our 60-minute full body massage.
Q: Are there any challenges that you have encountered in your line of work, and how do you overcome them?
A: We are very blessed as far as challenges go as we have not encountered too many. Obviously, the climate of the economy affects us, but we stay in prayer and keep close communication with our clients to find out what their needs are.
Q: How do you prepare first-timers for their first massage experience?
A: To ensure you get the most out of your experience, here’s what you can expect, your therapist will discuss with you any areas of tension or concern you may have. You will be treated to a peaceful and serene atmosphere, complete with calming music and soothing scents. During your massage, feel free to communicate with your therapist about pressure, comfort, and any areas you’d like them to focus on. After your treatment, take a few moments to slowly open your eyes, take some deep breaths, and notice how your body feels.
Q: What would you say makes your spa experience unique?
A: What sets Takara apart is our unwavering commitment to holistic wellness, rooted in our faith-based approach. We believe that true balance can only be achieved by nurturing the mind, body, and soul. Our expertly crafted massages and treatments are designed to not only relax and rejuvenate but also to inspire and uplift.
Q: What are some of the goals or future plans that you have for your business?
A: Future goals for Takara include expanding our services to reach more people, partnering with like-minded businesses to promote wellness and self-care, and continuing to nurture a community of therapists who share our passion and values. We also hope to establish a foundation that supports wellness initiatives and provides resources for those in need.
Q: What advice do you have for someone who is interested in starting their own business?
A: My advice to anyone wanting to start a (massage therapy) business is to keep God at the centre of everything, connect with fellow therapists, and highlight each other’s strengths. Every spa has its niche — something that makes them different. For us, it’s our commitment to holistic wellness and our faith-based approach.
Q: Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?
A: We are looking forward to helping you relax, rejuvenate, and restore your mind, body, and soul. Be sure to hydrate before and after your treatment. Avoid heavy meals or caffeine before your massage. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or share any concerns with your therapist. See you soon!”
