The East London community, Hudson Park High School, and the Volmink family are coming together to support grade 11 pupil Alysa Volmink as she embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime academic journey to Dubai in 2025.
To help raise funds for the trip, they have organised a lucky draw with exciting prizes.
Alysa has been invited by Travel and Sport to participate in an exclusive international academic tour due to her outstanding academic achievements.
The tour aims to expose top-performing pupils to world-class tertiary institutions, offering them the opportunity to attend private lectures and explore new horizons in Dubai.
Although excited about the trip, Alysa admits to feeling a mix of anticipation and nerves as she prepares to navigate unfamiliar surroundings. “I’m motivated because being selected for this tour shows that hard work really does pay off.
“I’m looking forward to making the most of this opportunity,” she said.
Alysa views the academic tour as a chance to deepen her knowledge by learning from esteemed experts in various fields. She’s also eager to engage with her fellow participants, building relationships and exchanging ideas that will enhance her learning experience.
“I’m especially excited to experience Dubai’s local cuisine, take in the beautiful scenic views, and learn about the diverse cultures,” Alysa said.
Alysa’s mother, Melissa Volmink, shared her overwhelming pride and gratitude for her daughter’s achievement.
“This is a huge accomplishment for Alysa and as her parents, we are beaming with joy,” she said.
“Her hard work, dedication, and passion for learning have truly paid off.
“This experience will broaden her perspective, help her understand different approaches to education, and potentially open her eyes to new career paths or areas of interest,” she said.
“It will certainly help her make more informed decisions about her future and give her a competitive edge in whichever field she chooses to pursue.”
Melissa also expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who are supporting Alysa’s journey. “Your generosity and belief in our daughter’s potential mean the world to us.
“Your contribution will help make this life-changing experience a reality.
“As parents, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow and flourish.
“By supporting Alysa’s academic tour, you’re not only investing in her future but also helping foster an open-minded, compassionate individual who will make a positive impact on our community and beyond,” Melissa said.
She emphasised that the fundraising campaign aims to enable Alysa to represent both her country and community on the global stage, while bringing back valuable experiences and knowledge to benefit her local community.
