The Jogie family from East London is reaching out to the community for sponsorship to help send their 10-year-old son, Ryan Jogie, to the Biathle World Championship in Egypt from October 8-13.

Ryan qualified to represent SA after competing in the Biathle SA Championship held in East London on August 10.

However, the costs associated with the trip are beyond the family’s means, and they are now seeking financial assistance.

Ryan’s grandmother, Sandra Jogie, expressed immense pride in his achievement. “We are so proud of Ryan for this amazing accomplishment. We’re doing everything we can to raise the funds to make sure he can be part of this experience,” she said.

The family has set up a BackaBuddy campaign and has reached out to friends, family, business owners, and local government sports departments to help fund Ryan’s trip.

“His success has shown us that with hard work, discipline, and determination, anything is possible, no matter your age,” Sandra said. “Our family has a rich history of sportsmen who excelled during a time when opportunities were scarce, so seeing Ryan achieve this at such a young age proves that he is destined for greatness. It also shows us that with faith, all things are possible.”

Sandra emphasised how Ryan’s dedication to both his schoolwork and sports continues to inspire the family to keep pushing toward his dream.

“We are doing everything we can to make his dream of travelling abroad and competing a reality. This opportunity could pave the way for other young athletes like Ryan, showing them that it’s possible to compete internationally for your country.”

She also expressed the family’s gratitude for the outpouring of support. “Words cannot fully describe the joy, pride, and excitement we feel about this opportunity. Ryan is over the moon, and we’re so thankful to everyone who is contributing, because we couldn’t do this without the community’s help.”

Ryan’s coach, Sherelle Smith from Hudson, shared her pride in her young athlete. “Ryan is incredibly hardworking and always shows up prepared. His love for swimming, combined with his commitment to the sport, sets him apart. I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Smith praised Ryan’s achievement, saying, “It’s not easy to qualify for such a prestigious international competition, especially when it involves both swimming and running. As the Harlequins family, we’re backing him 100%, and I know he’ll give his absolute best.”

She also thanked the sponsors helping Ryan on his journey, acknowledging that their support is instrumental. “Ryan won’t take their generosity lightly — he understands the value of what they’re contributing and will work hard to make the most of it.”

If you would like to support Ryan’s journey to the Biathle World Championship, you can contribute through the BackaBuddy campaign.
