Former Quigney community forum member Nelson Restom has planned a fun and interactive food event to raise much-needed funds for Choc East London.
The event, titled ‘Take a dip in the Mediterranean’, will see members of the public coming together at Hotel Osner on Friday, October 11, to create dishes from various countries such as Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Croatia and more.
Participants will present three bowls of dips or spreads served on a small cracker. They will also be able to decorate their tables with flags and other trinkets from their chosen countries.
Restom was a member of the East London Quigney Forum, where he played an important role in making a difference where crime and community service was concerned. Due to an injury, Restomhas been semi-handicapped and unable to continue his work in the community.
‘This is my way of giving back to the community that has been so supportive to me during my immobilising health issues and has given me a reason to get out of bed. I want the children who benefit from Choc to continue getting the help they need,” said Restom.
The entry fee of R150 per person includes a glass of sangria, the full Mediterranean experience as well as access to various stalls that will be selling Mediterranean snacks to take home. Choc, as the beneficiary of the event, will assist on the day by printing and selling the tickets on the big day.
Juliet Houghton, Choc Regional Director, says the proceeds of this event will be used to continue the work that Choc does.
“These kinds of events are very important because things are tough at our Eastern Cape offices. Choc is there to ensure that children living with cancer, or any other life-threatening disorders are able to access healthcare. We provide support with mechanisms and the Choc House if they live far. We don’t receive any government funding so this event and others like it help us a great deal to continue doingthe work that we do,” said Houghton.
Tickets are available at the Choc East London offices in Beacon Bay on Edge Road.
