Unite to save Buffalo Regatta

The various newspaper articles in the Daily Dispatch and the Go & Express about the future of the Buffalo Regatta refer.

The Buffalo Regatta is a prestigious sporting event that has been on the East London sporting calendar and is the mainstay of rowing for over a centenary in SA.

The decision has been taken to threaten this event and the clubs which have been loyally administrating the event each year to the best of their ability, and for the betterment of East London, the Eastern Cape and SA, by raising a high rental.

Such a decision must be met with a huge cry of dismay and fight-back.

The raising of high rentals for the rowing clubs smacks with total contempt to the sport, to the people and the many people who participate and enjoy the sport.

This contempt and high-handed approach by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) must be condemned.

I wish to pen my utter disgust over the actions of my former employer of 40 years (TNPA).

I am ashamed by your actions.

How can you, TNPA, treat the people, the clubs and rowers of East London, the rest of SA with such contempt — just for extra money.

This regetta is one of the mainstays of East London, bringing prosperity and entertainment to our river.

Surely you have a heart?

The port in the past has always accommodated such river events.

Remember the Harbour Festivals with the grand prix speedboat races held annually over several years.

Is it the wish of TNPA to close the Buffalo Regatta in total and for the rowing clubs and others along the river to fold up and close their doors?

What high attitude do you come from TNPA?

Shame on you.
