KuGompo City residents can look forward to a vibrant celebration of fun, fitness and community spirit when the Calvary Colour Run takes place at the Old Selbornians’ Ostrich Field on Saturday, July 4.
The family-friendly event promises a colourful day of entertainment and healthy activity for participants of all ages, with gates opening at 8.15am and the much-anticipated run getting underway at 10am. Participants can enter for R100 until July 3, while entries on the day will cost R120.
Youth pastor Sphiwo Mchunu told the Go! there would be no official closing date, as tickets would also be available at the registration desk.
He said online bookings could be made through the official platform.
Mchunu said: “Calvary Youth is the underlying organiser and administrator for the event, handling all behind-the-scenes operations and planning.”
More than just a colourful run, the event aims to unite families and create meaningful connections within the community.
“This event provides a fun family environment and something exciting to do during the school holidays, while bringing people together,” Mchunu said.
Young people are at the heart of the initiative, with organisers intentionally creating space for them to enjoy the experience. “We are encouraging young people to participate, while all event management has been handled by sponsors and volunteers to enable young people to simply enjoy themselves,” he said.
Mchunu said the run was born out of a need to support youth in the community.
“The colour run was started to raise funds to help young people attend youth camps and development programmes,” said Mchunu.
Funds raised from this year’s event will go towards sending underprivileged youth to the Calvary Youth Camp 2026, with a portion also being donated to a local charity.
“We hope families will be drawn closer through the fun of the day, and that Calvary Youth will have an opportunity to connect with the greater KuGompo City community,” he said.
Mchunu also encouraged the public to support initiatives aimed at uplifting young people.
“We encourage the local community to support youth initiatives, because organisations like Calvary Youth make a significant difference in the lives of young people and their families in our city,” he said.
With its combination of colour, purpose and community spirit, the Calvary Colour Run is expected to be a highlight on the local calendar.
Attendees can look forward to colour stations blasting powder along the route, as well as a variety of food stalls, lively music and an energetic atmosphere throughout the day.
