BEACONHURST High School teacher Ryno Simms featured in a recent episode of the KykNET’s Kwêla as an “Inspirerende Onnie” (inspirational teacher). The popular TV show visited the school to interview Simms and watch him in action after he was identified as an inspirational teacher by one of his pupils, Catelyn Cumberlege.

After a busy day of filming, it was clear to popular Kwêla host Therese Benade and the rest of the team why “Mr Simms” was nominated for this prestigious title.

Simms is involved in numerous activities at Beaconhurst, including moot court, the school newspaper, the ATKV committee and the health and safety committee to name but a few.

He is also responsible for organising the matric farewell every year. His involvement in the school and the lives of his pupils was one of the reasons he was identified for the “Inspirerende Onnie” project.

Beaconhurst is very proud of Simms and feels honoured to have him as a teacher at the school.

“We know he will continue to inspire and motivate our pupils to achieve their best and we thank him for his hard work and constant dedication. He is truly an inspiration,” said Cumberlege, who is a Grade 12 pupil at the school.
