High note for Opposite the Other
LOCAL alternative pop band Opposite the Other have achieved one success after the other over the last year.
Most recently, the band was named as one of the opening acts for British indie band Bastille for their South African tour next month.
Having opened for top US folk band The Lumineers in April, they would have opened for two top international acts in less than a year.
The band consists of former Stirling High School pupils Sam (lead vocals and piano) and Dan Burger (bass), as well as Capetonian Rob Spooner (drums).
“The shows we did with The Lumineers were truly an incredible privilege for the three of us. It was an eye-opening experience into the reality of their touring lifestyle and really special to play for so many new people. We couldn’t have asked for a better time,” Spooner said.
Opposite the Other will be opening at Bastille’s Cape Town and Johannesburg shows, joined by fellow South African artist Matthew Mole.
As Opposite the Other’s success reaches great heights, the three musicians remain humble and happy to be part of Bastille’s South African tour.
“Playing on a new stage and for new and old fans is always exciting. It’s an incredible opportunity for us to share our music with Bastille’s audience and that is something which we greatly appreciate and try to approach with the right level of respect,” said Dan.
Spooner said: “It always means a lot when artists trust you enough to share their stage and, to a degree, their fans with you.”
Fans will be happy to know that Opposite the Other have big plans for the rest of the year and the future with some new music, exciting shows and a tour in the pipeline.
“Agreements with potential new partners are also on the cards, so it’s set to be an exciting, challenging and hopefully impactful next six months for us,” Spooner said.
