Greenpoint Secondary School will be hosting a 5 km Big Walk/Fun Run tomorrow at 9am. The race will start at the school through the streets of Buffalo Flats. The entry fee for race is R30 for adults and scholars pay R10.
Deputy principal of the school, Rajen Packery said the purpose of the event is to raise funds to build a multi-purpose sports court at the school.
“We have a social responsibility attached to the event, as this year we will be hosting children from the Duncan Village Children’s Home, where we will be entertaining them and providing them with food,” indicated Packery.
“There will be prize money for the first three male and female finishers: R300 for winners who come in first place, R200 for winners who come in second place and R150 for winners who come in third place. The first three finishers will also receive medals while the first 80 finishers receive caps.”
“There will be lucky draws, a Miss Greenpoint pageant contest , live bands to entertain the locals, five-a-side soccer and a netball tournament. Entertainment will be provided by our Sasko truck and there will be food and refreshments on sale,” said Packery
He said donations for their lucky draws were provided by Mcdonalds (Amalinda), Spar in Buffalo Flats, Wimpy restaurant in Oxford Street, Sasko and Glynn Ramoo electrical.
