The third annual Queer Spring Festival takes place on Saturday at Drifters Theme Park in East London.
“The number of participants attending the festival has grown from the initial 300 to what it is now,” festival organiser Yanga Nyobo said.
“We’re hoping we can reach at least 750 people this year,”
The aim of the festival is to create an environment where the LGBTI+ community can come together and have fun without prejudice.
“It attracts people from all over South Africa and we’ve seen an improvement in the acceptance of this community,” Nyobo said.
Nyobo said they hoped the event could grow to be an “internationally recognised festival”.
“We’re also calling out for funding or any type of sponsorship from organisations. Running an event without any sponsorship is very difficult,” Nyobo said.
Festival organisers can be reached via their Facebook page, Queer Spring Festival.
Entertainment for the festival includes DJ’s, quad bikes, go karts, paintball and various stalls.
Tickets are available on Computicket at R100 each and R400 for VIP tickets. Cooler boxes will be allowed in at a cost of R60 each.
