East London local Nina Striglia, 24, has been chosen to take part in the World Swimsuit launch event which will be held in Cape Town on December 1.
The event will take the form of a secret model casting where judges will select one of the 30 attendees to feature in the 2019 World Swimsuit magazine. One of the benefits of winning will involve photo shoots in exotic locations around the world, such as Koh Samui, the Maldives and Seychelles.
“I feel very honoured to have been selected. World Swimsuit is an international platform and this will be great exposure for me as a model,” Striglia said.
“I’ve been a ballet dancer for about 15 years, so I’ve always enjoyed performing and the arts.”
Striglia originally only modelled as a hobby, but started taking it more seriously when she signed up with Cape Town-based modelling agency D&A Model Management in 2017. However, she maintains she is not a full-time model and has recently completed her honours degree in psychology, with plans to pursue a master’s degree in clinical psychology.
“I believe local models should be more supported, as during “season” [summertime], Cape Town is flooded with international talent from Brazil, Germany, England, and the likes, and the market for jobs is competitive.”
