Tickling funny bones is the name of the game as Vusi Sono, better known as Vusi Oulik, will perform his maiden comedy show at the Steve Biko Centre in Ginsberg, King William’s Town on Friday.
Titled Thetha La Xhosa (Speaking that Xhosa), his work is largely in vernacular but with unique accents.
“I was full of jokes growing up and in his school, and that is when I started watching some stand up comedy shows,” he said.
Describing his style of finding material, he said he creates something in his mind and then implements it.
“I cannot write something down but I do freestyle and do video content.
“Some of the content will be from my videos but a lot of new things as well,” he said.
Vusi has a number of videos on YouTube which have gone viral and over 39,000 followers on Facebook.
Originally from Komani, the 29-year-old did his primary schooling in Cape Town before moving back to Komani for his high school.
“I got a friend of mine from Cape Town, Ruben Jansen, to watch my experimental videos before I posted them online.
“On a lot of the video I impersonate various accents of ethnic groups,” he said.
Although Vusi is still trying to find himself, he would love to get into presenting as he feels he would nail it.
The show starts at 6pm, pre-sold tickets are R100 with tickets available at R120 at the door. For information, contact 061-091-6772.
