Stirling Primary School’s music department presented a spectacular end-of-year show at the Guild Theatre on Tuesday, November 8.

Performing to a full house, the pupils, accompanied by the school’s six music teachers, presented many crowd favourites.

Head of music Lara-Ann Van de Venter said the show was a celebration after a year of overcoming challenges.

“We first did the show last year during Covid with a limited audience. It was so well- received we decided to make it an annual event.

“The year has allowed us to have more live performances. However, some competitions have continued in a virtual format. The performance at the Guild allows us to celebrate a year of music excellence. This is a wonderful opportunity for our ensemble groups to perform,” said Van de Venter.

The 123 music pupils took part in various performances as part of the senior choir, big band, marimba bands and guitar ensemble.

The young musicians kept the audience entertained throughout the evening with fun and exciting tunes that perfectly displayed their various musical talents.

The school’s top pianists also presented pieces.

Grade 7 flautist, Marin Vine, said the school’s music department had overcome many challenges throughout the year.

“The music department has achieved a lot this year despite the challenges of Covid. The younger grades have adapted quickly to being part of the Big Band and I have been very excited about our performance.”

Pupil Nico Van de Venter was excited to perform on stage and show off the result of all their hard work practising.

“The year has been full of early morning band practises, as early as 6 am.

“I am looking forward to the performance and then getting some extra sleep in the mornings afterwards,” he said.
