Schornville-based Africans Rugby Football Club used their home advantage well to beat Shining Stars from Komani 26-14 in a thrilling Border Rugby Premier League game at Victoria Grounds in King William’s Town over the weekend.
Africans’ eighth man Dillon Van Rensburg scored two tries while prop Emile Miller and centre Clifton Wiggel also went over the tryline..
Africans started the season on a positive optimistic note, having already won two of their four games so far.
Manager Chief Melvyn Smith was impressed with his squad’s performance and cited a lack of fitness as the reason behind their two defeats.
“We started the season below-par with our players still lacking fitness and were punished severely, but the pieces of the puzzle are coming into shape now.
“There were also injuries to some of our key players and we had to use players out of their usual positions but I can surely now say that we are back in business.
“My forwards were outstanding and gelled as a unit and this was where we won today,” Smith said.
When asked what they wanted to achieve this season he responded by saying: “Our aim to end this season in the top 5 position with our focus in winning the league next year.”
