Since its release in 2020, Netflix’s Bridgerton has captured the hearts of die-hard romantics across the world and now in its third season, the show continues to provide viewers with storylines filled with romance, conflict, secrets, and so much more.

Based on the book series by Julia Quinn, the popular show follows eight siblings as they navigate regency-era London in search of love, adventure, and happiness.

In season three, Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) is ready for marriage and finds it in the arms of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), who has been his close friend for many years.

Colin and Penelope’s story follows the well-worn and established formula of Bridgerton. Each season has focused on a different sibling’s journey towards love, and season three’s focus on Colin and Penelope is extra special because audiences were introduced to their friendship in season one, and have watched as Penelope pined for Colin while being relegated to the role of the show’s wallflower.

Passion is a big part of the Bridgerton stories, and this season is full of it. Coughlan and Newton have incredible chemistry and do great with the friends-to-lovers trope.

Their love is deep and forces them to deal with things about themselves and each other that are difficult to accept.

This season is filled with many subplots including Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) also finding love and marrying Sir John Stirling (Victor Alli). Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) explores his sexuality and Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and his wife Kate (Simone Ashley) prepare for life as parents.

The much-anticipated reveal of Lady Whistledown’s identity is also a big part of the season.

The soundtrack doesn’t disappoint, including pop instrumentals of songs by BTS, Billie Eilish, Pitbull and Coldplay.

The last few moments of the final episode provide a very exciting moment for South Africans when East London actress Masali Baduza appears in the interesting role of Micheala Stirling.

The series ends on a high note, with many open plotlines, giving the directors and showrunners lots of creative options for the direction of the show going forward.

All seasons of Bridgerton are available on Netflix.
