An educational outreach programme by Buffalo City Metropolitan Inland Libraries brought smiles to many pupils’ and community members’ faces during a visit to the Jafta Lower Primary School on the outskirts of King William’s Town last Wednesday.

The activities included face painting, songs by the BCM Gospel Choir, traditional dancing, story-telling and the reading of poems by pupils.
Those present were shown books and educated on important life skills by professional nurses.
The BCM Fire Department also addressed the audience on the danger of fires, especially veld fires, how to prevent them and what to do in the event of a blaze.
BCM regional librarian Nothemba Maku said the visit formed part of their social responsibility programme, which was aimed at taking libraries to all communities within the region and exposing the public, and most especially children, to reading books.
Breidbach librarian Leona Boswell said what touched her most was the hunger to read books, clearly evident on the faces of those present.
Elated principal Mlamli Nashwa said the programme was very educational and was much appreciated by the pupils and residents of their area and surrounding communities.
“There were important books on display. And they educated us on how to access books, the internet and wi-fi services,” Nashwa said.
“We are indeed blessed and empowered by the library’s visit and would appreciate more similar events in the future.”
